The Lantern platform

One platform for teaching and learning in the age of AI.

Lantern Tutor, Studio, Insight and Core share a single learner model and a single policy engine. Each product is useful on its own. Together, they make every part of teaching and learning smarter.

Lantern Tutor

A patient, Socratic tutor for every learner.

Tutor meets each learner where they are, asks the next right question, and builds understanding instead of handing over answers. Every response is grounded in the curriculum your institution has approved.

  • Socratic by default, with guardrails set by educators
  • Grounded in approved materials, with sources shown
  • Adapts pacing, language and scaffolding to each learner
  • Accessible across devices, reading levels and languages

Lantern Studio

A teaching co-pilot that gives educators time back.

Studio turns existing syllabi, readings and standards into structured lessons, practice and assessments. Educators review, edit and approve everything before a learner ever sees it.

  • Draft lessons, rubrics and question banks from your materials
  • Align content to standards and learning objectives
  • Generate differentiated versions for every learner group
  • Human approval on every item before it is published

Lantern Insight

Signals that tell educators where to act next.

Insight turns every interaction into an evidence-based view of mastery, so educators see who is stuck, on what, and why, while there is still time to help.

  • Concept-level mastery for every learner and cohort
  • Early alerts on shared misconceptions
  • Recommended interventions with clear reasoning
  • Program-level outcomes for academic leadership

Lantern Core

The governed intelligence layer underneath it all.

Core holds the learner model, the curriculum knowledge graph and the policy engine. It is where institutions control data, models, safety settings and integrations.

  • Living learner model built on a curriculum knowledge graph
  • Institution-level policy, safety and model controls
  • Full audit trail of AI interactions
  • Standards-based integration with your existing systems

Architecture

Engineered as one system.

Every Lantern experience runs on the same four layers. That shared foundation is what makes the platform AI-native rather than AI-assisted.

  1. 01

    Experience layer

Tutor, Studio and Insight share one design system and one data model, so learners and educators move between them without friction.

  2. 02

    Learner model

A probabilistic model of what each learner knows, updated with every interaction and mapped to your curriculum knowledge graph.

  3. 03

    Policy engine

Institution-defined rules for safety, pedagogy, data access and model behaviour, enforced on every request.

  4. 04

    Integration fabric

Connects to the systems you already run: learning management, student information, identity and analytics.

Integrations

Fits into the stack you already trust.

Lantern launches from your learning management system, syncs rosters from your student information system and signs users in through your identity provider.

  • LTI 1.3
  • OneRoster
  • SAML 2.0
  • OpenID Connect
  • SCIM
  • xAPI
  • QTI
  • Caliper
  • WCAG 2.2 AA
  • REST and webhooks

Questions

Frequently asked.

How is Lantern different from adding a chatbot to an LMS?

A chatbot answers questions in isolation. Lantern is built around a learner model and a curriculum knowledge graph, so every interaction is grounded in your materials, updates what the platform knows about the learner, and informs the educator. The AI is the foundation of the product, not a feature beside it.

Does Lantern replace our learning management system?

No. Lantern is designed to work alongside the systems you already run. It launches from your LMS, syncs rosters from your student information system and signs users in with your identity provider.

Is student data used to train AI models?

No. Learner data is used only to deliver the service to your institution. It is never used to train shared or third-party foundation models.

Who controls what the tutor will and will not do?

Your educators and administrators. Lantern Core lets institutions set pedagogy and safety policies, such as whether the tutor may reveal final answers, which sources it may draw on, and which topics are out of scope.

How long does a typical rollout take?

Most institutions begin with a focused pilot in a small number of courses or programs, then expand once outcomes are measured. Our team works with yours on integration, educator enablement and evaluation design.
